Brother DCP-375CW showing error 'init unable AF'

I have established that this error is connected to the scanning function. I have checked that the scanner flat cable is fixed to the pcb, but the printer still won't function. Is there anything else I can try?

I think I have same issue with a Brother T500W. As soon as printer is powered up, scanner tries to move to the home position on the left side of the glas. It is unable to detect the home position, so it keeps crashing with the left side end and the gears start making lot of noise. Unable AF is read on display.
