Brother HL-1210W wi fi connection fails

I have a Mac book air and have been able to connect a Brother HL-1210W by USB cable but when I follow set up instructions for wi fi ,it runs through the setup process and tells me Im connected. However whenI open the printer it tells me Im not connected. Any ideas out there

Do You have a router?
You must know SSID (wifi name) and Pass Word to setup router Wifi.

Hi Ruffin thanks for the reply. Yes I have a router and have now connected the wifi. I reinstalled the printer after restarting the computer and disconnecting the router power for a few seconds. A bit tricky but we got there. Cheers.
