BROTHER HL-L3230CDW 'No Toner' Saga - Can you revert firmware to a previous version ?

My printer did an automatic firmware upgrade to version 1.31 and immediately afterwards stopped recognising my 3rd party toners. I see other people have had similar problems and wondered if it is possible to revert to a previous firmware version to see if this corrects the problem.
