I had a perfectly working MFC-420CN, one day, it starts saying UNABLE TO INIT on the front panel, and the SCANNER gear keeps making noise as if it wants to progress beyond the EDGE of the scanner.. so it sounds like a grinding noise as the gears keep spinning even though the scanning bar reached the edge.
I've opened the top glass, and see no dirt or anything stopping the scanning bar. Also, I can manually move it to the right side, or middle. As soon as it is powered on, the bar slowly moves to the left as part of initialization sequence; then once it hits the edge, it wants to KEEP going, and that's what makes the grinding sound of the gears..
included 4 photos of the unit.
Does anyone know of such a problem? what is supposed to make the scanning bar STOP at the left once it hits the SIDE? why does it want to keep going more to the LEFT??
Thanks!!
