Brother MFC-8880DN bricked after firmware update

The other evening I got a notification that there was a firmware update for my Brother MFC-8880 DN. I initiated the update but after getting to 90% the update stopped saying there were problems connecting to the printer. Now the printer is bricked. After turing the printer on, the ring sound of an incoming fax sounds for a second, the display is full of vertical lines and no lights are running on the printer. There is nothing I can do with it. Has anybody any ideas what I can do? Does anybody know hot to perform a hard reset on startup for this printer?
