Brother MFC-J985DW inkjet printer won't eject page at end of print

My Brother MFJ-J985DW started malfunctioning after I had to clear out a paper jam.

Following the onscreen instructions for clearing a paper jam, I removed the paper tray, then pulled forward the two green tabs on the left and right insides of the paper tray. This released tension on the jammed paper, and I was able to pull out the jammed page intact.

There were no instructiosn about how to reset the two green tabs, so I manually forced them back to their original position with my fingers, then re-inserted the paper tray.

Now, when I print a single page. the printer prints ok, but it fails to fully eject the page after printing. The page is most of the way out, but the back edge of the page is being held by something. I can give the page a light tug and it comes out without too much force. Of course, now when I print multiple pages, the second page jams up because the firsr page is not fully ejected.

Can anyone suggest a cause and a fix? Did I break something when I forced the two green tabs back to their original position by hand, without letting this be done by inserting the paper tray?
