Can 7890 ink, 700ml carts, be used in 7880 printer.

Hello fellow print enthusiast's,

My header above says it all. I am a dedicated user of an Epson 7880 printer purchased over 10 years ago, and it still works well!

Even though I use photo black ink I am starting to experiment with matte papers, and they do use more ink.
It would be a dream to use 700ml carts.
If the carts are the same size, fit and configured in the same way as a 220ml cart, couldn’t I just change the chip, tricking the printer into identifying a new 220 ml cart?

Hey Ron,

The 700ml carts are physically larger and won’t fit in the 7880, but in theory, swapping the chip from a 220ml cart **might** work. Some users have tried chip resetters or third-party refillable carts with success. Just be careful—Epson firmware updates can sometimes block these workarounds. Worth experimenting if you're up for it!
