Canon IPF 710 paper loading issue

I just purchased a used Canon IPF 710 plotter. It started up fine, I loaded the paper and made sure it was lined up on the marks. I've spend almost 2 hours at different times trying to get it to load but it continues to say paper size not detected. It's set on rolls not sheets. The roll is 36"x300' I have it set to correct paper type. Can anyone help.
