Canon printer MG5550. Off line message (sometimes)

I keep getting a message saying "Pinter not online" even when I know that it is. This situation only seems to occur when I try to print a photo. I reassure myself that the printer is online by printing a random document successfully.

Any help, ideas or advice would be much appreciated.

I am using a Sony laptop running Win7 and connecting to the printer direct with USB cable.

If this didn't happen before, you can set the printer settings back to its "default".
