Cartridge stall on Dell 968w

I keep getting a message saying that there is a cartridge stall on my multipurpose Dell 968w. There are no obstructions, but when I open the cover the cartridges don't move to the center. It may need to be cleaned, but I don't know how to do that. Does anyone know how to resolve this problem?

Sorry if the problem wasn't clearly understand. Are you saying that your printer says that there is a cartridge in the printer even if there's none?
