I have a Lexmark Z2420 printer. I also have an empty 36 black cartridge which I have tried, unsuccessfully to refill. I bought a new 36xla so that I could (presumably) refill it. Lexmark says it can be refilled, but they advise against it.
I took apart the old 36 to see if I could see a chip in there somewhere, but I couldn't fine it or anything like it. I even stripped the Mylar tape which protects the contacts and copper lands to see if a chip was hiding somewhere under it. Couldn't find any.
Can anyone explain how Lexmark prevents a user from refilling a type 36 cartridge?
