CISS on hp deskjet 2050

I am planning to install CISS (Continuous ink supply system) for my hp 2050 deskjet . Does CISS need to be installed on brand new cartridges or when the cartridge is halfway. I print hardly about 10 pgs per month but the cartridges dry out whether I use them or not after 3 months which is why I am planning to install the ciss . So in my case im hopping a ciss tank will last a whole year
