Connecting Brother MFC-260C printer/fax to PC?

Hello,

I have a Brother MFC-260C fax/printer and would like to connect it to my PC (running XP version 2002) and although the software appears to be installed and after setting the aforementioned printer as the default printer, and rebooting all machines, they still aren't connecting. BTW I have connected the printer to the PC via USB.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.
