Epson 3880 error 1404

Printer stopped dead. "Contact service center - error 1404" comes up. Google search reveals possibly damaged carts or replacing the pressure pump. It's a cheap part but the printer's out of warranty and there are no service centers anywhere near here. Any clue if it's more likely a cartridge? THANKS VERY MUCH!

First be sure you are using Epson brand OEM cartridges.

Error indicates that the air pressure for an ink cartridge is not correct, which is usually caused by a defective ink cartridge. If you recently replaced an ink cartridge, try replacing it with a new one.

Try re-seating all cartridges one at a time. One or more cartridges may have lost its seal.

Does anyone know how to open the cartridge holder while this message is on please? I want to try removing and reinstalling the ink but can't open the cover! I'm probably being a goon but struggling lol!
