Epson dx7400 cartridges

hope someone can advise, I have been using compat. Cartridges on this system for ages without problems suddenly it comes up and says cartridge incompatibility errors on windows, changed cartridges same problem. Have tried the power down and leave approach still same error. Does anyone know how to reset these devices or process for getting over this problem or do I have to purchase a genuine set of Epson cartridges to get over it, these are probably cost more than printer,

It appears that you have received updated Firmware download from Epson.
Firmware is part of your Epson printer with no restore or reset software available.
Many manufacturers preclude utilization non-OEM cartridges with their firmware updates.
