Epson xp-312 scanner problem

I have a Epson xp312 I keep getting a scanner error message E-02 I have a faulty scanner can I somehow just bypass the scanner on the printer? I don't really use it so I don't mind if it is disabled, I'm just bit sure how to disable it, I've removed all the connecting ribbons to the scanner but the printer still come back with the dame error code and message
