Epson XP-640 downgraded but 3rd party inks still not recognized

I have gone through the downgrade process and all the codes I could find online to downgrade the firmware my mother's Epson XP-640 printer. The firmware is saying it is downgraded and cannot be updated, however it is still not accepting the 3rd party inks. I am on day 3 of trying to get this figured out for her remotely. We live on opposite sides of the country. I am at my wits end. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
