How many times can a HP 802 cartridge be refilled ?

I have an HP 1050 deskjet printer , the stock cartridge came up with with printer :- i refilled it four times , finally unable to refill again i used steam to clean it but the whole cartridge melted , Now i face a dilemma , Should i buy a refurbised HP802 large cartirdge . My question is how many times can i refill an hp cartridge , I print like 400 pages in a month . Are there any steps to follow to ensure that the cartridges can be refilled maximum times .
