I've encountered a strange problem with my HP DeskJet 5900 recently. It will print documents that have something colorful in them normally. But if I want to print something that is plain black on white (like typical everyday text documents), the printer will not print the document until I remove the tricolor ink cartridge. The computer shows the status as "printing" but the printer does nothing. The tricolor ink cartridge indicator light lights up when this happens. After removing the cartridge the printer starts printing as normal.
I find this strange because I'd assume that if the ink cartridge was damaged or empty it wouldn't print normally in color, but there are no problems with color printing.
