HP PSC2355 paper jam problem

I have a HP PSC2355 printer.
When I try and print it feeds the paper part way through the printer and says paper jam without printing anything.
when I try and copy, it feed the paper part way through, carries on saying copying but nother else happens.

I have checked for any paper jam or bits of paper stuck inside and found it to be clear.
I have checked the paper out lever and that seems intact and moving freely.

I have tried un-installing the printer and software and reinstalling it and that made no difference.
I can see nor hear any broken bits inside.
The printer has not suffered any shocks nor has it been dropped.
The cartridges move freely

Any further ideas what to try.
