Laserjet 4100, Laserjet 5

Hi,
I recently purchased a Laserjet 4100 after hearing of its legendary build quality, reliability, and low cost of ownership. Shortly after that, I purchased a Laserjet 5.

Is there any consensus on which of the ancient Laserjets is the most reliable and offers the lowest operational costs?

Also, my LaserJet 5 will not connect to my network. The 4100 was detected by my Linux Manjaro system nearly instantly, but the Laserjet 5 remains invisible. Any suggestions? Also, will the Laserjet 5 perform properly if I use a parallel-to-USB converter cable?
