Laserjet 6l win10 64bit

I have an old Laserjet 6L printer which worked fine with my previous 32bit windows 10 desktop.
I now have a 64bit windows 10 pro desktop, and try as I might, I can't get it working properly.
I have managed to get it recognised and it responds to the print command, but produces gobbledygook.
How do I get it fully operational?
