poor photo quality MFC-J61FW

When I print a photo, it kinda looks like a colored negative. It prints a border, with a black outline on 2 sides, even though the settings are set to not do so. I just bought my printer about a week ago. I have tried suggested settings I had found online. I use windows 7 x64. Printer is hooked up as wireless. I am using Kodak glossy 4x6 photo paper. I bought this printer specifically for printing photos. I can upload a picture of the photo if needed.

What am I doing wrong? Is it defective? Do I need to return it (got it from HSN)? Please help :confused:
