printed LIED about ink level

Hi, my HP photosmart c6250 said i was out of magenta ink, i was about 50% on the other inks.

so i go to the store and buy magenta ink (genuine as always) and i put it in and it says its full on magenta but now 0% on black blue and yellow. I put the old magenta in and it says it was 50% on that.

Im about to rip my head off and throw this printer out the window so please help me.

I get that sometimes with my printer. Sometimes, my Samsung CLP-310 says that I'm running out of ink but there's still at least half left. Most of the time, I just ignore the message and continue printing documents until the colour on the document has seriously faded, then I change the ink cartridge.
