scanning photos and suddenly "unable to communicate with device" message

I have been scanning 100's of photos. Now, it randomly stops communicating with desktop. Everything says that they are both connected to wifi. I've tried restarting, reseting, Everything I can think of. totally frustrated.

Have you replaced a modem or router since the last time you've scanned photos? New networks are turning all in one tech obsolete once the wireless hardware is outdated. I've picked up more HP printers that way over the past year. They work perfectly fine by USB or even Ethernet if available.
