Should I discard 3 year old ink cartridges?

I was given a very high end Epson Stylus printer. Along with it are old ink cartridges. Some of them are refillable ink.
I would not know how to refill the ink cartridges.

Being that these refillable inks are so old should I discard them?

What about 2 to 3 year old ink cartridges that were sold retail?

How about the ink cartridges that are still in the printer?
