Temp fix for leaking toner cap

I have a Brother HL-2240 printer. The cap is hard to get out, so mine is mangled and is leaking toner.

I ordered a new cap. In the meantime, what do you think of cleaning the old cap up and applying some clear nail polish as a temp measure.?
