Hi guys, ive got an officejet pro 8600 plus which is throwing a paper jam warning up. Theres nothing stuck inside and ive stripped it right down ( used to be a mechanic ) the only noticeable thing is the carriage is dead free left to right when powered of but a good deal tighter when powered on, is this normal or the reason it thinks there’s a jam ?
Thanks in advance for any advice

Hey! The carriage being tighter when powered on is normal since it's engaged with the printer's mechanics. The false paper jam warning might be due to dust or debris near the sensors, so double-check those. Also, try a reset or firmware update, as that can sometimes fix these issues. Good luck!

If you're talking about the printhead carriage being loose after powering off, that means the printhead is not able to get into the lock position. There could be something on the track. I would disconnect the printer and very carefully flip the printer upside down while shaking it. Do that a few times in a few different angles to move anything that could have fallen in the way out.

If the jam happens when you're trying to print something, it could be the duplexer.

Thanks for your reply,it will go into the cap station ( lock position ) and slides all the way left and right, when I go to run it the carriage will only move about 3 inches from its resting position, so if in lock position it’ll move 3 inches to the left or if I move it manually all the way left it’ll move 3 inches back to the right, stall, say paper jam.

It's an expression used to describe a significant and often disorienting shift in one's circumstances or perspective.
