totally black output when copying from adf

I have a HP color laserjet enterprise M570 dw. every time we try to copy from the adf I get a totally black page with whkte edges. We have tried to do a firmware upgrade and reset factory defaults and still get the same output. Please help

Are you saying that it copies ok if you lay an original on the scanner? If yes, is there something blocking the narrow glass at the edge that reads documents sent through the adf? I don't know how that could happen, but anything on that glass strip is going to make black appear across the corresponding area of the print.
