Trying to understand CUPS

I don't understand how CUPS prints.

The path appear to be

usb://EPSON/Stylus%20SX100?serial=KQEZ387420&interface=1

But this is not usual path from a folder to a printer, for example: /dev.../.../. etc

Can someone explain?
