USB not recognized by HL-L2390DW

The USB cable on my WIndows 8.1 is not being recognized by my computer that is connected to a Brother HL-2390DW printer. The same thing happens on two Windows 8.1 laptops. This is after downloading the software from Brothers web site. The printer works great on my Mac and on Windows 10.
What could be solution so that I can print from a Windows 8.1 machine?

Have you tried with this driver?

If you have USB2.0 port try to plug there.
Or maybe you can consider to update your system to Windows 10.
