Using Epson "I" Cartridges as Replacement Cartridges

I just got my Epson XP-630 and was wondering if I can use the Epson "I" cartridges as replacement cartridges. I'm somewhat hesitant to use third party remanufactured cartridges and am looking to save some money. Epson claims they cannot be used this way, but I don't see why they can't. Several sellers on eBay have them for about half the cost of regular Epson cartridges.
