WIA constantly missing.

I have just bought an XP-345 and am using it via wireless. It has a stand-by facility which I had to disable because every time I switched it back on the PC could not scan. This was due to the 'WIA' driver being missing. I disabled the sleep mode and its been ok for a few weeks. I had a paper jam so had to switch it off and now I am getting the missing 'WIA' driver issue again. If i restart my PC a few times it eventually fixes it but this is not right. I can always print but not scan. What can I do? I am using 8.1 and have restarted the WIA in windows numerous times but this does not help. It is set to Auto for WIA.
