Trying to help a friend with a Brother DCP-165C connected to a computer with Windows XP. It used to work OK, but stopped and he has no idea why.
I deleted the printer from his computer and re-installed using the latest online drivers and now the computer can't "see" the printer at all. Have gone through this procedure again several times, also using the original driver disk.
I tried changing the data cable to a known "good" one, to no avail.
I tried the printer on a computer I have with XP on it and it works perfectly.
I have lent my friend a Canon printer I have and that works fine on his computer which proves that the USB system is working properly.
Can anyone please suggest a solution to this problem, short of formatting his disk and starting over? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
